Journal of Media Education (JoME) Call for Editor

Journal of Media Education Call for Editor Term: January 1, 2018-December 31, 2020 Deadline: February 01, 2017 The Broadcast Education Association’s Publications Committee seeks applications for the next editor of the Journal of Media Education, the Association’s editor-reviewed journal published quarterly. The new editor will be selected in April 2017, at the BEA Publications Committee meeting following interviews to be held during BEA’s convention in Las Vegas, NV. The editorial term is for three years, but the Editor-Elect should be in place by May 1, 2017 in order to begin reviewing new manuscripts and learning the mechanics of the editorial position. Beginning with the January 2017 edition, the mission of JoME will change slightly to become a hybrid journal of both peer-reviewed and editor-reviewed content.  Additionally, JoME will include peer-reviewed creative content as a regular feature. As a result of these changes, BEA is seeking applicants to propose ideas to expand the journal to include both types of work. The new journal editor will have support from BEA’s Publications Committee, staff and board of directors, but will ultimately be responsible for transitioning the journal.  As a BEA publication, the Association provides financial support in the form of a modest editorial honorarium and editorial assistant stipend.  The Association may also provide funding to help underwrite expenses associated with necessary design and software expenses to maintain the current publication image.  (Editorial support budgets require prior approval.) Interested applicants should send: a letter expressing interest in, and ability to, edit and produce a web-based professional journal an editorial statement of vision for the Journal of Media Education and...

June 2016: Message From BEA President Augie Grant

President’s Corner:  Why Does BEA Need Another Conference?   As the deadlines approach for October’s “Super Regional” conference at the University of South Carolina, many people have asked me why BEA is sponsoring a second national conference this year. There are many answers to this question, but they all boil down to a single theme:  The BEA Board of Directors and Executive Committee is trying to find more ways to serve you and other BEA members. Here is a quick list of reasons I gave the Board when I proposed this meeting: Our members need more opportunities to have creative work go through a peer-review process. Our members need more opportunities to present creative works. Some members (especially those on the east coast) need a less expensive option to attend a national conference to present their research and creative work. Many BEA members have requested software and other training that we can’t easily do at the April convention in Las Vegas, but which can be easily done on a university campus. Our field is changing so often that a second opportunity to attend panels (as well as presenting our work on panels) will help us better keep up with these changes. (This one is more selfish:) This conference offers the opportunity for the host university to “show off” its new facilities, focusing attention on our facilities as well as on curricula, research, and creative work. We won’t know until later this summer how much demand there is for a second conference. The deadline for the Call for Papers, Panels, and Research in Progress is tomorrow, June 15, and the...
