BEA Board of Directors District 3 Representative Campaign Statement
My name is Chad Roberts and I welcome the opportunity to represent my region as a BEA Board of Directors District 3 representative.
I am currently the Audio Labs Manger at Central Michigan University. The majority of my time is spent advising the students of two separate, student-run, radio stations. The AAA format Mountain 91.5 and the Hip-Hop format Beat 101.1. I started at CMU in April of 2010, before that I spent five years as the Student Media Advisor at Simpson College in Iowa. At Simpson, I was the advisor for a student newspaper, yearbook and radio station. I have also taught numerous courses at both institutions including: Intro to Mass Media, Audio Production, Understanding Media Measurement and Broadcast Performance.
I joined BEA in 2010 and have presented papers and panels at BEA every year since 2011. I also have just completed a four-year stint (two years as Vice-Chair and the last two years as Chair) on the Student Media Advisors interest division. In that time, I helped to increase the number of colleges and universities that are competing for the Signature Station of the Year awards in both radio and television. The division also has worked hard to increase the number of presentations offered in our interest area. While at Simpson College, I spent two-years as President of the Iowa College Media Association. In that position, I was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the yearly conference held in Des Moines. From presentations and workshops to the student awards ceremonies and media tours. It took a lot of coordinator and organization and I was very happy with the outcome of the two conferences that I was in charge of. I have also worked on many academic and advisory boards in my time at Central Michigan and Simpson College.
If elected to this prestigious position, I promise to work with the members of my district to provide seamless communication and information between the board and my constituency. If members of my district have any question or concerns, I will work hard to get them responses as soon as possible. I am engaged in media, hard-working for both colleagues and students and interested in helping out in any way that I can.
