Mentor Match Ups with Radio Professionals

Students from across the county were able to meet up with radio broadcast professionals from different media outlets, thanks to the Radio Advertising Bureau and their Student Scholars Program

In order to become a student scholar, you have to apply. It’s a simple application, including uploading a resume, name of advisor who referred you, and more. Next come the perks: free registration to the BEA and NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada, a $150 gift card, and access to the Mentor Match-up session.

The session is described by the Broadcast Education Association as an opportunity to “meet with top media executives.” The sessions include information on content creation, podcasting, management, programming, and more. It’s an open conversation with the media professionals.

Christina Travaglini, Erik Hellum, Mike Tarter, Pierre Bouvardm Sabina Widmann, Chris Forgy, David Santrella, Glyn Alan, Kevin Rich, Marie Tedesco, Mike Hulvey, and Phil Becker came to Las Vegas to meet with students and represent their perspective companies.

LinkedIn was a big topic at the sessions. Pierre Bouvard, from Cumulus Media spoke on the importance of making connections. Mike Hulvey also pushed the importance of who you know and having a network of people behind you.

There are two time periods during the match-up session. Students are able to meet with two professionals. Each session normally has one professional and about seven students.

The RAB student scholar program and Mentor Match-up sessions help college students and young professionals meet people in the world of radio.
