ASC Cinematography Masterclass

The ASC’s annual Cinematography Masterclass will explore the opportuascnities of filmmaking with today’s hottest technology. In conjunction with the American Society of Cinematographers, this workshop will introduce you in an intimate setting to this year’s award winning guests.

Bill has been a USA-based Cinematographer for 20 years. Starting out as a carpenter on set, but always with the intention of making it behind the camera, he made his way up to the top of his profession and now works with clients like Audi, Land Rover and Apple. Bill recently received the President’s Award from the American Society of Cinematographers.

ANASTAS MICHOS works with bold confidence in every genre. From lush period pieces, to sparkling romantic comedies, from electrifying thrillers to pulsating musicals, Michos brings to each of his films a strong style and dynamic look.

His versatility is front and center in the kaleidoscopic musical drama Sparkle; the breezy romantic comedy Jumping the Broom; the ominous horror film Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D; the relentless in-your-face camerawork of the FBI thriller Untraceable; the gritty reality of the New York police drama Freedomland; the lush period drama Mona Lisa Smile, and the polished suspense thriller Perfect Stranger.

Experience and artistry combine in his work with Hollywood’s leading ladies Beyonce Knowles, Halle Berry, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Roberts, Angela Bassett, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Hudson, Paula Patton, Julia Stiles,  Whitney Houston, Meg Ryan, Annette Benning are a few of the women captured by his lighting artistry and appreciation of beauty in storytelling. Throughout his lengthy career, Michos has collaborated with the industry’s top directors, among them, Milos Forman, Edward Norton, Kasi Lemmons, Mike Newell, Stephen Frears, Neil Jordan, Oliver Stone, Ron Howard, and Danny DeVito.

Before moving up to Director of Photography, Michos worked for more than a decade as one of the industry’s most respected and sought after camera and Steadicam operators.  He remains an active member of the American Society of Cinematographers, and  the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Michos lecturers frequently at universities and workshops throughout the US and Europe.

Francis Kenny, ASC

Francis Kenny was the chief documentary cinematographer on He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.  He’s photographed numerous feature films, commercials, and television shows.  His dramatic films include the television show Justified (Peabody Award), Bonnie and Clyde (Bruce Beresford),  Steel Magnolias (Kenny Leon), Finder’s Fee (Jeff Probst), Sweet Bird of Youth (Nicolas Roeg), and the feature films She’s All That, Harriet the Spy, Jason’s Lyric, Coneheads, New Jack City, and Heathers.

Francis is an active working cinematographer who specializes in the use of the Red Digital Camera.  He spends his off time teaching cinematography at UCLA, AFI, the ASC, and the Maine Photographic Workshop.  He is proficient in Adobe’s Photoshop and the printing of digital pictures where he studied under Mac Holbert of Nash Editions
