WVUA 23 News (Birmingham DMA #46), the independent commercial television station
owned by the University of Alabama, is looking for an associate news producer to produce
the 5pm newscast. This is a Monday through Friday dayside position (9am to 6pm shift) with
hourly pay range of $19.33-$24.18. Some overtime working special events, projects, or
programming is possible.
The successful applicant will lead the building and delivery of a 30-minute live newscast,
manage story selection and direction, and weave together content from newsroom staff,
CNN/Newsource, A.P. wire, and other sources. Our new team member will also mentor
students who want to build a base producing proficiency to qualify for anchor opportunities
or want to pursue producing professionally.
Must have related college degree, solid experience with AP/ENPS newsroom software and
either Adobe Premiere or EDIUS editing software, a creative mind, positive attitude, and the
patience of a saint. Must demonstrate solid news judgment in the writing and selection of
stories and manage the control room during live broadcasts. Experience building newscasts
with live shots and effective graphics is preferred as is a commitment to supporting digital
and social media news delivery.
WVUA 23 News operates in the Digital Media Center inside Bryant-Denny Stadium right on
the vibrant and exhilarating campus of the University of Alabama. The station is supported
by the Journalism and Creative Media Department in the College of Communication and
Information Sciences, which helps prepare student interns to staff newsroom positions from
studio camera operator to newsroom video editor to reporter to weekend anchor. We strive

campus for stories that impact and interest the people of seven west-central Alabama
counties (Walker, Bibb, Hale, Green, Pickens, and Fayette).
