Job Description: The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences
(CAS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for a full-time,
temporary, non-tenure track assistant professor, beginning August 2026. This is a one-year
temporary position with health benefits. The teaching load is eight courses a year over two
semesters (4/4). We seek applicants who demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in a
range of courses. Possible areas of teaching may include introductory and intermediate courses
in media, digital media, social media, sports media, media production, journalism,
communication technology, writing, and design. The format of classes includes both in-person
and online courses. Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite is desirable, as these tools are
commonly used in our media courses.
Required qualifications: The successful applicant must have a PhD or MFA in media or
communication or a closely related discipline by August 15, 2026.
