Illinois Central College seeks a qualified, student-focused instructor to join a well-established Communication/Mass Communication program consisting of five full-time faculty and a team of adjunct instructors. Housed within the Arts & Behavioral Sciences Department, the program offers a diverse curriculum, supports a competitive forensics team as well as Harbinger Student Media organization. We are seeking an instructor prepared to take on significant teaching and leadership responsibilities within Mass Communication and Journalism, with additional contributions to Communication Studies.
Faculty must be available to teach during the day, evenings, and/or weekends as determined by the schedule of classes. The academic year base salary and rank will be determined based on the educational preparation and occupational and/or teaching experience of the successful candidate.

Essential Functions

- Teach and coordinate assigned courses—including lecture and/or lab-based formats—ensuring that all instructional materials, equipment, and safety standards are met.
- Prepares syllabi, instructional materials, tests, and assessments in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies, and procedures. Clearly communicating expectations, assignments, and schedules to students.
- Maintain regular office hours and provide ongoing availability to support student learning.
- Communicate proactively with students, offering guidance and resources to promote student success.
- Works collaboratively with faculty members and staff to continually improve the curriculum, student experience, and departmental initiatives.
- Seeks professional development to remain current with discipline, emerging technology, and the latest teaching tools. Maintains professional skills through regular professional development and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty.
- Maintains highest possible standards of classroom instruction.
- Collaborates with teaching teams to connect with students, engage students in learning, assess student learning, and assist with continuous quality improvement and systematic evaluation of the program curriculum, policies, and practices.
- Actively serves on college committees.
- Actively participates in institutional meetings.
- Performs assigned duties during the day, evening and/or weekend on any assigned campus including teaching courses in different modalities.
- Performs other related duties as required (such as providing leadership for Harbinger Student Media, including mentorship, oversight, and coordination of student media activities).
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Master’s degree in mass communication or a closely related field such as mass media, media studies, or journalism.
- Experience teaching introductory communication courses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in communication or a related field.
- Experience teaching at a community college.
- Experience working in a communication field.
- Experience instructing, tutoring, or similarly teaching in Mass Communication or Media Studies.
