A FEW THINGS TO NOTE:

-Blind Review… Do NOT include a cover page with author and contact information and remove ALL author information from internal pages. Judges need to blindly review your papers. Papers are linked to your profile on the backend.
– Editing Abilities… You can edit and/or re-submit papers up until the deadline.
– Length & Style… The paper is not to exceed 30 double-spaced pages, including references & tables, and use of APA style or a style suited to the discipline is expected.

Categories & Competitions – Submit your research to the relevant BEA interest division as a “Debut” or an “Open” paper. “Debut” is open only to those who have never presented a paper at a BEA convention, and “Open” if you have previously presented a paper at BEA.  To help defray costs, 1st and 2nd place “Debut” winners receive $200 and $100 respectively.  Regardless of the number of authors, BEA will award one check to the individual who submitted the paper.

Co-Sponsored Papers are encouraged. No more than two (2) Interest Divisions will be listed for co-sponsorship on a particular paper.  Authors must indicate the division being proposed as a co-sponsor.  Go to the bottom of the page and click on the green link that says “Add a co-Sponsor.”

Paper Submission Process — Once you login with your BEA login and password, follow the steps below:

  1. Submit a paper… Click on the link for “Submit or Edit a Paper or Program Proposal.”
    2. Select an Interest Division… Read the division descriptions and select the division to which you will submit your research. Papers may NOT be submitted to more than one division in the same year.
    3. Submit the title & abstract… Follow the guidelines to add a title and abstract
    4. Adding co-authors… At the prompt, add any co-authors to the paper.  Note: If your co-author(s) aren’t BEA members, have them create All Academic accounts first so you can easily search and link them to the paper.
  2. Review & Upload… Review your information and upload your paper.

The BEA2023 Convention Spotlight is….. Retracing the Future
This year’s convention spotlight concludes the three-year exploration of the future which invoked the following themes: Facing the Future (2021), Embracing the Future (2022), and Retracing the Future (2023). Retracing the Future in BEA2023 encourages us to look forward and plan for a future that will continue to evolve at rapid pace – but it encourages us to do so while looking back into our history and understanding how we arrived at the present moment.  Simultaneously engaging with the past, present, and future allows us move forward with purpose, intentionality, justice, and hope….and just the right amount of caution. What have we learned from the multiple social and other challenges we have face in the distant and recent past? How can we use what we have learned to inform creative solutions and opportunities? What new or tried-and-true instructional models and practices can be created, combined, or adapted to best meet our students’ and our society’s needs in the long term?  What media models and practices will be most beneficial and effective for industry partners, practitioners, and the citizens of a democratic society? What should we bring back, update, or set aside? What should we do/create/teach now? BEA2023 stands firmly in the present, committed to a just and inclusive future, and highly aware of how our past has brought us to where we are now. By Retracing the Future, BEA 2023 encourages us to take a 360-degree look into the past, present, and future of electronic media practices, education, and research.

Retracing the Future serves as a spotlight for the convention, but papers are not limited to this area of research.  Papers should be submitted to the division that best fits that division’s goals and objectives.  Each division selects up to four papers for BEA2023 presentation and additional papers may be selected for the Scholar-to-Scholar digital research (poster) session.
