Rebecca Ann Lind, Director of Undergraduate Studies and an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), has been awarded the 2019 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship.

Dr. Lind, who earned her PhD at the University of Minnesota, has published numerous articles and has received a variety of grants to support her research in the areas of audience studies, race and gender, new media, and media ethics. She is working on a third volume of Produsing Theory in a Digital World:  The Intersection of Audiences and Production in Contemporary Theory. Other books include four editions of Race/Gender/Class/Media: Considering Diversity Across Audiences, Content, and Producers.

She has held a number of administrative positions, including Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research at UIC and Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS).  She is currently UIC’s Faculty Grievance Officer, and the Compliance Coordinator for LAS.

A former broadcaster and print journalist, Professor Lind has been a member of BEA since the late 1980s. She has held a number of leadership positions in BEA, including chair of what is now the Gender and Sexuality Division, service on the BEA Board of Directors, Convention Chair for BEA 2002 (The Future is Now), and Research Symposium Chair for BEA 2015 (Race and Gender in Electronic Media). She also served on the BEA Research Committee, and the BEA Publications Committee including four years as chair.

BEA’s Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship recognizes significant contributions to research and scholarship involving broadcast and electronic media.  Recipients are evidenced by related extensive publication in books and leading journals, for at least twenty years.  The LAS will be awarded to Dr. Lind at BEA’s annual convention at the Las Vegas Westgate during a ceremony and reception on the evening of Sunday, April 7th.   She will give a formal presentation, Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters: Dimensions of Neo/Religiosity on the afternoon of Monday, April 8th.
