Mary C. Schaffer
Associate Professor, California State University, Northridge (CSUN)

Mary C. Schaffer is an Associate Professor at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) where she teaches new media in the Cinema and Television Arts Department.   Prior to joining CSUN 13 years ago, Schaffer spent 13 years working in New Media as Director of Production for Disney Interactive and Viacom New Media, Executive Producer of Children’s Games at RealTime Associates and Director of Editorial for GeoCities.com and Homestore.com.  Prior to her work in New Media, Schaffer spent 19 years as a journalist. She produced Morning Edition at National Public Radio in Washington D.C. as well as nightly news at WDIV-TV (Post-Newsweek).  She also worked as an Associate Producer and Producer at WCCO-TV’s Moore on Sunday, a weekly prime-time news and documentary show.

She is a member of the Producers Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She has served on the Board of Directors of Broadcast Education Association (she is currently President of the Board), the International Documentary Association and Alliance for Women in Media. Schaffer’s research interest includes older adults and new technology/new media as well as assistive technology.  She currently is developing a project on new technology and exercise for older adults.  Her web-documentary about one-room school-houses is scheduled to be released in 2015.
