These\u00a0<span class=\"markz2ljc4izi\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">spotlight<\/span>\u00a0topics can engage recursively with each other, invoking the past, present, and future. Facing the Future in BEA 2021 acknowledges the ever-increasing pace of change in the media industry. It also acknowledges the societal upheavals brought about by the combination of the coronavirus pandemic and increased awareness of social injustice. Before we turn our (hopefully optimistic) gaze next year to Embracing the Future, we must first assess where we are now, how we got here, and where our threats and opportunities lie. We must begin by Facing the Future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When does it take place?<\/strong><br \/>#BEAvegas officially kicks-off on Monday, April 12 at 10:30 am EDT with a welcome from BEA leadership and wraps up at 5:00 pm EDT on Friday, April 16. Business meetings will take place from Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 9 and can also be found on the virtual platform.\u00a0 Pre-recorded sessions will be shared prior to April 12th and all live sessions will be recorded (unless we received a request not to record) so they can be viewed on-demand.\u00a0 The content will continue to be available to all BEA members at no cost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the registration fee to participate as a presenter or attendee?<br \/><\/strong>Current 2021 BEA Individual Members (Individual Faculty, Professional, Emeritus and Graduate and Undergraduate Student Members) will be registered for BEA2021 for FREE.\u00a0 Your information will be uploaded and you will receive instructions to participate.\u00a0\u00a0If you are not a member and wish to participate, the fee for the convention is $130 for faculty members and $55 for graduate student members.\u00a0 If you are an undergraduate student at a BEA member college or university, email <a href=\"mailto:help@BEAweb.org\">help@BEAweb.org<\/a>\u00a0to receive instructions on free membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I use these #BEAvegas sessions in my class?<\/strong><br \/>YES!\u00a0 We will share ideas of content that will be useful to use in your classrooms &#8211; but PLEASE check with the paper chair of the division you submitted your paper to first.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/beavirtual.secure-platform.com:443\/a\/solicitations\/1605\/home\">Please upload the presentation<\/a> by Tuesday, April 6th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should I do if I am a BEA Interest Division paper winner?<br \/><\/strong>If your paper won a monetary prize, your primary author will receive an award check if they are presenting their paper.\u00a0 We will reach out for the best mailing address.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should I do if I am presenting a Digital Poster Presentation or Research-in-Progress Digital Poster?<\/strong><br \/>Most digital poster sessions will take place live in a &#8220;speed round&#8221; format with each presenter getting 5 or 6 minutes for their presentation.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaweb.org\/conv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/BEA-Digital-Poster-Guidelines_20211.pdf\">Please click<\/a><a href=\"BEAweb.org\/pdfs\/BEA%20Digital%20Poster%20Guidelines.pdf\"> here for instructions on creating your Digital Poster.<\/a>\u00a0 If you would rather submit a recorded presentation, you can submit a voice over recording of your digital poster and talk about your research or include your digital poster and a video or audio file along with it.\u00a0 The content you provide us will live in our online convention platform where it will be linked to the session and to your individual record.\u00a0 Attendees will be free to watch your session and send questions through the platform.\u00a0 Please submit your <a href=\"https:\/\/beavirtual.secure-platform.com:443\/a\/solicitations\/1417\/home\">Interest Division digital poster<\/a> or your <a href=\"https:\/\/beavirtual.secure-platform.com:443\/a\/solicitations\/1419\/home\">Research-in-Progress<\/a> digital poster by Tuesday, April 6th.\u00a0 Please note, even if you are presenting live, we ask that you send in your poster to be part of our over digital poster platform &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/beavirtual.secure-platform.com:443\/a\/solicitations\/1604\/home\">submit your poster by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I add my virtual convention presentation to my CV?<\/strong><br \/>We know that provosts at some schools have indicated that papers already peer-reviewed and accepted to our conference will be counted in the same way as if the paper was presented at the conference.\u00a0 We hope that this policy will be universally accepted by institutions for tenure and promotion considerations going forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should I do if I am a Festival of Media Arts winner?<\/strong><br \/>We held our live announcement sessions in March, but our faculty Best of Competition winners will participate in a series of sessions discussing their work on April 14, 15 &amp; 16.\u00a0 Check the program for listings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When are the Interest Division Business Meetings scheduled?<\/strong><br \/>The Interest Division Business Meetings will take place April 5 &#8211; 9.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaweb.org\/wp\/?p=10599\">Please click here to see the dates and times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What size file can I upload for #BEAVegas?<\/strong><br \/>When you upload files to #BEAVegas, the file goes into Amazon\u2019s servers and transcoders. As a quick answer to many of your file size questions, we would recommend a 2 GB or smaller file in a MP4 format (Also could beH.264 or WebM).\u00a0 Please reach out to us if you have any questions at <a href=\"mailto:JD@beaweb.org\">JD@beaweb.org<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While there is no set limit on file size, we discovered the rate of an upload error rate increases dramatically above 2 GBs. Additionally, we recommend you try to keep your file size close to or below 1 GB to ensure a smooth viewing experience for the judges, as some file formats require full download of the entry before streaming begins.
