News Division Call for Papers

Deadline: December 1, 2004

 Broadcast Education Association
50th Annual Convention & Exhibition
April 21-23, 2005

Las Vegas , Nevada

The BEA News Division invites scholars and students of broadcast journalism to submit scholarly papers for possible presentation at the 2005 conference in Las Vegas. The BEA2005 convention theme is "Fifty Years of Excellence for Electronic Media Academics, Industry and Future Professionals" and is intended as a focus for the convention, but does not imply that competitive papers must reflect that theme. The News Division welcomes any original work of research that addresses compelling issues in news practices or products. We also welcome papers from a range of theoretical and/or methodological perspective. Please contact division vice-chair Geoffrey Baym (gdbaym@uncg.edu) if you have questions regarding topics and/or methodologies.

Papers must be submitted as either "Debut" or "Open" papers. The Debut category is open only to those who have never previously presented a paper at a BEA Convention. First and second place winners in Debut categories receive $200 and $100 to help defray their costs of attending the convention.

Please be sure your paper meets BEA's guidelines for paper submissions, including the following:

•  Length: not to exceed 30 double-spaced pages, including references and tables

•  Style: use of APA style or a style suited to the discipline

•  Abstract: abstract of less than 250 words to be included with submission

•  Exclusivity: papers may not be submitted to more than one division during the same year

•  Authorship: author's name, institution address, phone number and e-mail to appear on the cover page only (list all contact information for each author of multiple authored papers)

•  Any A/V requirements also must be listed on the title page

•  At least one (1) author of an accepted competitive paper MUST attend the convention to present the paper. Participants MUST be members of BEA and registered for the convention.

Papers must be received by December 1, 2004 , to be eligible for consideration.

Please send 4 (four) copies (sorry, no electronic versions will be accepted) to:
