BEA History Division
2004 Call for Papers

The History Division of the Broadcast Education Association invites scholarly papers from academics, students and professionals for presentation at its annual convention, April 16-19, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The BEA2004 convention theme is Bold Vision, Fresh Thinking: Untangling Media's Gordian Knot. Although the theme is intended as a focus for the convention, competitive papers are not limited only to that theme. All topics appropriate to the History Division are welcomed. Papers are to be submitted as either "Debut" or "Open" papers. First and second place winners in Debut categories receive $200 and $100 to help defray their costs of attending the convention. The Debut category is open only to those who have never previously presented a paper at a BEA Convention. Graduate students and new faculty members are strongly encouraged to submit debut work.

Submission Requirements
  • The detachable cover page must include: the author's name(s), institutional affiliation, institution address, phone number and e-mail. The cover page should also have the title of the paper, the "History Division" designation, and whether it is an "open" or "debut" entry. Any papers without such designation will be considered in the open category. Any references to the author or institutional affiliation should not appear anywhere else in the paper.
  • The title should be printed on the first page of the paper and in an abbreviated form in running head on all subsequent pages.
  • Papers should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages in length, including references and tables.
  • Use APA style or a style suited to the discipline.
  • Papers must be accompanied by an abstract not to exceed 250 words.
  • The same paper may not be submitted to more than one division during the same year.
  • Four copies of paper submissions are required.
