48th Annual Convention,
April 4-7, 2003 Las Vegas, Nevada
The
Production Aesthetics & Criticism division of the Broadcast
Education Association invites scholarly papers from academics,
students and professionals for presentation at the annual convention
in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2003. The BEA2003 convention theme is:
The Next Generation. The theme provides a focus for the convention
and paper topics may focus on a wide range of areas within the
framework of the division. Topics related to the production processes
and innovations in audio and video production are welcome. The
division also welcomes topics related to applied media aesthetics
and critical examinations of media texts and processes.
Papers are submitted for either
"Debut" or "Open" categories. The Debut category
is open to those who have not presented a paper at a BEA Convention.
First and second place winners in Debut categories receive $200
and $100 awards. In addition, any graduate student paper selected
will receive a $100 travel award.
Submission Requirements
Papers should not exceed 30
double-spaced pages in length, including references and tables.
Use APA style or a style suited to the discipline. Papers must
be accompanied by an abstract not to exceed 250 words. The same
paper cannot be submitted to more than one division during the
same year. The author's name, institution address, phone number
and e-mail should appear on the cover page only. The cover page
should also have the title of the paper and the division to which
the paper is submitted, any A/V requirements, and whether it is
an "open" or "debut" entry. Any papers without
such designation will be considered in the open category. The
title should be printed on the first page of the paper and on
running heads on all subsequent pages. Three copies of paper submissions
are required.
Deadlines
Three copies of paper submissions (with web-posting permission
form and electronic version on diskette if web posting is permitted)
should be sent to the appropriate division. To be eligible for
consideration, the paper competition chair must receive submissions
no later than 5:00 PM on November 30, 2002. The lead author will
receive an e-mail confirmation from the paper chair upon receipt
of the submission. Winners will be notified by January 28, 2003.
Convention Attendance
At least one author of an
accepted competitive paper must attend the convention to present
the paper. Participants must registered for the convention. Three
copies of paper submissions (with web-posting permission form
and electronic version on diskette if web posting is permitted)
should be sent to the division by November 30, 2002. Winners will
be notified by January 28, 2003. Send papers directly to the following
