Since 1955, BEA has been serving as a higher
education association of professors and industry professionals who
teach college students worldwide and prepare them to go into the
broadcasting and related emerging technologies professions upon
graduation from college.
BEA is seeking nominations for the Twelfth
Annual Outstanding Dissertation Award. Established by Kenneth Harwood,
Professor at the University of Houston and a former President of
the BEA Board of Directors, the award offers $1,000 for the outstanding
Ph.D. dissertation in broadcasting and electronic media completed
during the period between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2002.
The award has been established through gifts started by Professor
Harwood and a donation from a friend of BEA.
Nominations must be made in writing by the
dissertation director or by the department chairperson of the degree-granting
institution. Dissertations nominated for the award without the support
of the dissertation director or the department chair will not be
considered. Nominees must have been awarded the Ph.D. after January
1, 2002 and before December 31, 2002.
Nomination materials must be received by
the BEA Worldwide Headquarters no later than the deadline of Friday,
January 17, 2003 and must include the following:
1. Six copies of a letter of nomination from
the dissertation director or the department chair of the degree-granting
institution.
2. Six unbound copies of the full dissertation,
which will not be returned. Each of these copies must have an abstract
included as part of it.
Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered
for the award.

BEA will distribute copies to the members
of the Publications Committee of the BEA Board of Directors for
judging. Only dissertations completed at BEA member institutions

The winner will be announced Friday, April
4, 2003 at the Awards Ceremony of the BEA 2003 48th Annual Convention
& Exhibition, in Las Vegas, NV. The BEA hopes that those who
enter this contest will attend the convention, which will be April
4 to 7.
