BEA2002 Call for Papers

The Student Media Advisors Division of the Broadcast Education Association invites papers for possible presentation at the BEA 47th Annual Convention & Exhibition, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, April 5-7, 2002. The BEA 2002 convention theme is "BEA 2002: The Future Is Now." The theme is intended as a focus for the convention, but does not imply that competitive papers must reflect that theme.

Papers submitted to the competitive paper competition are classified in two categories: debut and open. The debut category is for faculty, professionals and students who have never presented a paper at a BEA convention. The open category is for all others.

The papers should not exceed 30 double-spaced, typed/printed pages in length, including references and tables. Please use APA style. Papers must be accompanied by an abstract not to exceed 250 words. The same paper cannot be submitted to more than one BEA interest division during the same year.

Papers should address some topic related to the goals and mission of the Student Media Advisors Division (see reverse side). Papers can be printed (typewritten), submitted on diskette, or submitted through electronic mail. The names and affiliations of all authors, the name, address and telephone number of the principal author, and the category to which the paper is submitted, should appear only on the cover sheet or title page. Please do not include your name(s) on any of the pages of text. All submitted papers will be blind reviewed by a panel of judges, and ranked on content, style, and contribution to the goals and mission of the Student Media Advisors Division.

The top two papers in the debut and open categories will receive recognition and are presented at the division's paper competition session at the BEA convention. In the debut category, the top paper will receive a $200 cash award and the second-place paper will receive a $100 cash award.

An effort is once again being made to post the winning papers on the BEA web site. The permission form will be made available to papers selected for presentation. For multiple authorship, all authors will need to sign the form. Prohibiting web posting will not affect consideration of the paper for convention presentation. At least one author of an accepted competitive paper must attend the convention to present the paper.

The submission deadline for papers is November 30, 2001. Winners will be notified by January 28, 2002. All papers should be sent to:
