2002 Annual Convention
Call for Abstracts
Research in Progress Competition

Postmark Deadline: December 15, 2001
The Broadcast Education Association invites graduate and undergraduate students to submit research in progress for presentation and discussion at its 47th Annual Convention, April 5-8, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV. Submissions may include faculty authors, but the project's lead author must be a student. Work in progress may involve an individual project or an on-going line of research, and may come from any of a variety of perspectives represented within BEA using either qualitative or quantitative methodologies. The ideal project for an "in progress" submission will be at a stage where feedback and suggestions on method and/or data analysis are appropriate. The BEA 2002 convention theme is "The Future is Now." The theme is intended as a focus for the convention, but does not imply that all research presentations must conform. Submissions will be peer reviewed. Top projects will be selected for presentation in at least one regular session at the convention. Additional submissions may be selected for a second session, quality and schedule permitting.

Submission requirements

  1. Submissions to the "Research in Progress" panel should be in the form of an extended 2000-word abstract. The document should include an introduction, relevant hypotheses or research questions, proposed method and analysis, brief discussion of expected results and their implications, and references. Submissions will be evaluated in terms of the quality of the theory developed, the question posed and the rigor of the method proposed:
    • Is the question compelling to the BEA audience?
    • Has a thorough theoretical groundwork been laid?
    • Will the results be likely to contribute to theory building and/or provide guidance for industry practice?
  2. The author's name, institution address, phone number, email and the title of the project should appear on a separate cover page. The title should also be printed on the first page of the abstract. To insure anonymity in the reviewing process, no reference to the author's identity or affiliation should appear after the cover page.
  3. The work should not be under review by another association or competition.
  4. FAX and email submissions will not be accepted.
  5. The lead author of the accepted project will be expected to register for and attend BEA 2002 to participate in the Research in Progress panel.
  6. Submissions must be postmarked by December 15, 2001
  7. Send four (4) printed copies of the 2000-word abstract to:
