Law & Policy Division
BEA2002 Call for Papers
We may be called the Broadcast Education Association, but the papers and
panels presented by the Law & Policy Division have ranged far beyond broadcasting.
In the last few years, we have seen papers on the regulation of cable,
telephone, and the new technologies of the Internet. Scholars have presented
constitutional analyses, policy studies, ethical constructs and historical
perspectives. The research has focused on the activities of the FCC, the
President, Congress, the courts, state governments, local governments,
and individual stations. In the increasingly global communications reality,
there are many more regulatory bodies coming into play - and yes, we've
seen papers on those, too.
BEA's Law & Policy Division has moved beyond just your basic looks at
broadcast regulation. We encourage you to submit papers, and encourage
you to let your colleagues and students know that we're not just about
broadcasting anymore.
Submission Requirements
- Maximum of 30 double-spaced pages, including references and tables
- 250 word abstract
- Sole submission to the Law & Policy Division
- A cover page that includes the author's name, institution address,
phone number, e-mail, title of the paper, the division to which the
paper is submitted, and whether it is an "open" or "debut" entry (debut
is anyone who has not submitted to BEA before).
- The title should be printed on the first page of the paper and on
running heads on all subsequent pages. The author's name should not
appear in the body of the paper.
- Three copies of paper submissions are required.
- At least one author must attend the convention to present the paper.
- Papers must be received by December 1, 2001.
Web Posting Past convention winning papers are posted on the
BEA web site. This attempt at further disseminating the materials will
be repeated again with the 2002 Convention. If you wish to have your paper
posted, please have every author sign the permission form available at
the BEA website (www.beaweb.org). In addition, you must submit a PC or
Macintosh 3 1/2" diskette. The file can be either Microsoft Word or Rich
Text Format, but should be the only file contained on the diskette. The
complete paper should be contained in one file containing the cover page,
body, tables, references, etc. Prohibiting web posting will not affect
consideration of the paper for convention presentation. Authors retain
the copyright and web publication does not prohibit subsequent publication
in official BEA publications.
