This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. The department offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized concentrations. We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students. Our students, faculty and alumni have won major awards at the state, regional and national levels. Our eight-year-old, multi-million dollar facility includes a full studio, newsroom, Mac and PC labs, all of which were just upgraded with new computers and software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midwestern State University is centrally located between Dallas and Oklahoma City in Wichita Falls (population 103,000). MSU, a Texas public university with nearly 5,300 students, is small enough to be personal but large enough to offer students considerable opportunities. MSU is a proud member of the Texas Tech University System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duties<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful candidate will teach a range of journalism courses and may be assigned to teach other courses in the major as needed. The successful candidate will also serve as an academic adviser; lead students to participate in extracurricular activities such as student media and internships; maintain a record of scholarly activities commensurate with rank; actively recruit; engage in departmental, university and community service; develop relationships with area professionals; be a positive representative of the department both on and off campus; and perform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum Qualifications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A master&#8217;s degree in mass communication or a related field, and substantial professional experience in journalism, is required for the rank of instructor on non-tenure track. A doctorate or terminal degree in mass communication or a related field is required for the rank of assistant professor on tenure track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preferred Qualifications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Related teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level; professional experience in the field of journalism; video, production and student media experience; ability to teach core courses such as Mass Media and Society, Film Appreciation, and Interpersonal Communication; experience in advising student media; experience in academic advising; experience with recruiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Application Process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy statement, copies of unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three references to sara.conyers@msutexas.edu.
