Job Summary/Basic Function

The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Strategic Media at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.

The successful applicant will teach writing-oriented courses in general reporting and other courses in the school’s specialized areas, which include sports media, entertainment journalism, environmental journalism and communication, and social justice journalism. Departmental tenure requirements include a record of excellent teaching, peer-reviewed scholarly research or creative activity, and service to the university, the field of journalism, and the public.

Required Education

A terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field is required.

Required Related Experience

Three (3) years of full-time, media-focused professional work experience is required. Applicants with a master’s degree in journalism, public relations, advertising, mass communication, or a closely related field with ten (10) years of full-time, media-focused professional work experience will be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.

Other Desirables

Applicants who can teach investigative reporting, data journalism, mobile journalism, audience engagement, social media analytics, or copyediting will receive special consideration.
