Assistant Professor – Sports Media Center – #077296The Newhouse Sports Media Center(SMC) at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking a seasoned creative content producer to join our team as a fulltime Assistant Professor(aP). The successful candidate will have a track record of excellence in sports documentary filmmaking and creative content production for all social platforms at a network, sports league, athletic program or production company who distributes content on multiple platforms including: television, web, and social media. Specifically, the successful candidate will have extensive experience producing; shooting and editing video; storytelling for broadcast, web and social media platform; and leading creative content producers in the areas of video, motion graphics and graphic design for a sports entity. Additional skills such as production pitching, creative talent recruiting, entrepreneurship in media and creative consulting are a plus. This position is the perfect opportunity for an experienced filmmaker and content producer with a terminal degree who is interested in teaching the next generation of creatives how to tell stories across multiple platforms. Tenure-track professors are expected to pursue activities that will position them as a well-known expert in their field by continuing their creative pursuits, engaging in research in sports documentary and sports content for social platforms and leading students in award winning creative content production. This position has a start date of August 2024. The primary responsibility of an aP is teaching. The person hired will teach undergraduate and graduate courses including Sports Documentary, Sports Content for Social Platforms, The Sports Media Pitch, Sports Production; Sight, Sound and Motion, Documentary Production and Multimedia Storytelling. The person in this role will teach five courses per academic year.The position requires a variety of service duties, including: academic and career advising; department, school and university committee service; curriculum development; and community/industry outreach. Duties within the Newhouse Sports Media Center will include leading a content team for the SMC social media channels and website, leading a student film production industry partnership with Syracuse University Athletics, continuing the development of a Sports Photography Experience, bringing outside professionals to the Newhouse School as guest speakers, engaging with prospective students and families and be a general ambassador and representative of the center University and community wide. The Assistant Professor has a specific obligation to build and maintain successful partnerships with industry professionals and organizations. This is a tenure track position. PoPs work under multiyear contracts. The successful candidate will be joining a department of faculty with many years of varied professional broadcast journalism experience.
