Technical skills might include video, audio, or social media production, immersive media (VR/AR/XR) production (360 video, Unity, UnReal Engine), and/or media campaign strategy and tactics. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track teaching position with an expected course load of 4/4 for fall and spring semesters and 2 classes during the summer. The School of Communication has a long-standing reputation for providing cutting-edge research, teaching excellence, and public outreach that influence and lead the field. The faculty have a broad range of research interests and value civic engagement and experiential classroom learning that combines theory and practice with a focus on addressing real world issues. With an increasing need to deepen our teaching of the practical skills necessary to translate Science, Health, Environmental, and Risk Communication for a public audience, this new position has been created to further the University and School’s mission of facilitating publicly engaged content creation that can help bridge the divide between academia and the broader public.

Candidates may come from Communication or a related discipline with related expertise.QualificationsA Ph.D. in Communication or related field is required. Ideal candidates must be innovative and forward-thinking with a demonstration of teaching technical skills and a commitment to mentoring students. Successful candidates will have an established portfolio of creative, visual work in the areas of Science, Health, Environmental, and/or Risk Communication. Successful candidates should be committed to experiential education, teaching, service, and public outreach. They should have a strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate students.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in any of the following areas: Video Production, Immersive Media Production (VR/AR/XR), Audio Production (podcasting), Media Campaign Creation/Management, Projection Mapping, Documentary History, Media Technology Theory and Practice.
