GENERAL DUTIES

Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.

-Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment

-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions

-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff

-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories

-Maintains safety and hygiene standards

-Documents laboratory activities

-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Department of Communications and Performing Arts at Kingsborough Community College invites applications for a Senior College Laboratory Technician. The Senior College Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the support of department lab (radio station, tv station, and remote production and editing lab) as well as degree program required courses and program elective courses and for the technical support required for classroom instruction and media content creation and support.

  • Provides Classroom/Studio support for Television Production courses including setup of cameras, teleprompters, studio lights (replacing lamps when needed) and lightning board operational controls, audio console and sound equipment, production switcher, recording devices and Chyron graphics generator.

-Provides Classroom/Studio support for Television Field Production and Editing courses including setup of cameras, field teleprompters, field lights and sound recording equipment.

-Provides Classroom/Studio support for Radio Production courses including the setup of consoles, analog and digital recording equipment, microphones and Adobe Audition editing software.

-Assists Instructors with demonstrations and explanations of equipment and production techniques.

-Supervises and assist students field production projects in both radio and video applications.

-Supervises students during Open Lab sessions in the Television Studio and Editing Lab.

-Assists the General Manager with day-to-day operations of the FM Radio Station.

  • Assist in maintenance of production equipment
  • Conduct training workshops at the in studio operations and on-air performance
  • Assists with the creation of training materials
  • Assessment of post-training student performance
  • Create recorded Public Service and Promotional Announcements for on-air use
  • Coordinating and training students for remote sports broadcasts
  • Assists with the management of the recorded media database
  • Assists with managing the program schedule
  • Maintain Operating Log file
  • Assists with the administration of Audio Over IP Network

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years’ related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate’s degree may be substituted for two years’ experience and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years’ experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • A.A.S. degree in addition to a minimum of 4 years experience working in an urban community college setting
  • Ability to direct, train, and supervise others
  • Experience with the following: FCC rules and guidelines regarding Noncommercial Educational Radio Stations
  • Expertise in the fields of Audio and Video Editing, Studio Production and Field Production.
  • Experience with remote sports broadcasts. Axia Digital Radio Consoles, iMediatouch V4, Adobe Audition 5, Protools Version 8 or later, Autocue QMaster Teleprompter systems and Software, Avid media Composer, Chyron Lyric 7.1 or later, Grass Valley Kayak series Production Switchers, Grass Valley iDDR, Panasonic HP370 Studio Camera Systems and Strand Palette Lighting Consoles

COMPENSATION

$64,082 – $72,319

Salary commensurate with experience and qualfications.
