This position acts as the engineer-in-charge to support technical operations for video production and broadcasts, conducts routine maintenance for facilities, and supervises a team of Student Broadcast Engineers (student staff). This position works in close partnership with campus departments, including the School of Communications, Athletics, Event Technology Services, and Cultural and Special Programs. They provide training to student production crews and support class productions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Lead technical operations for video productions and broadcasts, including configuration, technical troubleshooting, and day-of production for live video, IMAG, streaming, and capture (45% of time)• Act as the engineer-in-charge and coordinate with event service providers and clients for a variety of broadcasts. Broadcasts include student-led studio shows, live sporting events to streaming partners and video boards, and large university events such as speakers and graduations.• Direct support includes software configuration, production day planning and troubleshooting, and supervising set-up, proper equipment usage, and breakdown.• Occasionally serve as the executive producer for high-profile, large university events.• Average breakdown of types of events:• School of Communications Studios (65%)• Elon Sports Vision broadcasts (30%)• Elon University Events (5%)2. Provide routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and support of Elon University’s video production facilities and equipment. Locations include all control rooms, TV studios, and athletic venues. (25% of time)• Upkeep fiber optic infrastructure.• Perform regular updates of operating systems.• Create and repair audio and video cables and connectors.• Perform regular troubleshooting and support.• Be available and on-call to aid with any technical problems.3. Lead and manage a team of Student Broadcast Engineers (student staff) who support TLT operations. (20% of time)• Lead all efforts related to student staffing and development, including recruitment strategies, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, HR and payroll functions, and mentoring of the student broadcast engineers.• Develop and provide training/workshops for student broadcast engineers to build their skills and support TLT operations.• Design internal workflow and communication processes to involve students in ongoing projects within the team and create opportunities for professional development.4. Provide training and support to the School of Communications’ production crews, Elon Sports Vision students, faculty, and class productions. (10% of time)• Training efforts are focused on ensuring the safe and effective use of broadcast equipment/facilities.• Assist the Chief Engineer in leading training efforts on Ross equipment and live audio mixing (XPression, Carbonite, Inception, MOS workflows, Wheatstone, Yamaha Digital Consoles, Dante).• Provide training and supervision for proper set-up and breakdown of fiber optic cameras and talent set-ups for Elon Sports Vision broadcasts.5.
