Job Description: Professor of Practice in Broadcast & Digital Journalism JOB#076957The Broadcast & Digital Journalism Department (BDJ) at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking a seasoned multimedia journalist to join our team as a fulltime Professor of Practice (PoP).The successful candidate will have a track record of excellence in reporting news, at a network or in a major news market, on multiple platforms including: television, web, and social media. Specifically, the successful candidate will have extensive experience reporting; shooting and editing video; and storytelling for broadcast, web and social media platforms. Additional skills such as data journalism/visualization and audio storytelling/podcasting are a plus.This position is the perfect opportunity for an experienced multimedia journalist who is interested in teaching the next generation of journalists how to tell stories across multiple platforms. A Professor of Practice is expected to stay active in the professional world of journalism and may use their summers to continue working in journalism. This position has a start date of August 2023.The primary responsibility of a PoP is teaching. The person hired will teach undergraduate and graduate courses including reporting for television, radio, web and social media. Additional classes may include cross-platform news writing, multimedia storytelling, and news ethics. The person in this role will teach six courses per academic year.The position requires a variety of service duties, including: academic and career advising; department, school and university committee service; curriculum development; and community/industry outreach. The Professor of Practice has a specific obligation to build and maintain successful partnerships with journalistic professionals and organizations. This is a nontenure track position. PoPs work under multiyear contracts.The successful candidate will be joining a department of faculty with many years of varied professional broadcast journalism experience. Our faculty have done it all from reporting to producing, to newsroom management.
