The Assistant Professor in Mass Communication will be responsible for teaching courses in the Mass Communication and Foundation Communication programs as needed, serving on departmental and college-wide committees, and pursuing a scholarly or artistic agenda.


Preferred applicants will hold a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MFA) in Mass Communications, Mediated Technology, New Media, or a related field with an emphasis in digital communication technologies, live production, directing and producing. A secondary area of broadcast performance is desired. ABD candidates with a completion date of no later than August 2022 will also be considered. The candidate should show evidence of scholarly or creative potential, including established research or creative interests. Practical field and studio production experience is also beneficial.

As a teaching-focused institution, York College seeks candidates committed to cultivating student excellence in conceptualizing, writing, and producing both studio and live field production in news and public affairs, sports, documentary, and entertainment programming. Successful candidates will have demonstrable success in teaching a range of courses such as New Media Studies, Video Production and Editing, and Digital Communications development and marketing. Additional courses may include Broadcast Media Writing, Media Laws and Ethics, Media Management, and in the department’s General Education program – Foundation Communications.

 Candidates who remain in consideration will be asked to provide a show-reel of their production, editing, and directing work to the search committee. Finalists will be expected to demonstrate competence with video, television studio, and field equipment as part of the on-campus interview process.
