Western Carolina University is seeking a qualified fixed-term non-tenure professor of practice to enhance its academic program in television and digital media. This position will oversee the technical operation of a high definition television studio designed and installed by Sony and teach/co-teach a limited number of classes per year providing instruction in television and video technologies and content creation processes. Responsibilities include the circulation and maintenance of field equipment used by students and faculty.
The successful candidate will be skilled in using high definition television and video production computer applications for content acquisition, routing, switching, storage, and editing. He/she must have experience with and demonstrate excellent working knowledge of studio and field HD cameras, large format HD video switchers and audio consoles, audio and video routers, fiber optic video transmission, digital storage, video editing, and studio IFB and intercom systems. Additionally, the individual should have experience with local networks for audio and video content transfer and storage. The successful candidate will have the experience and technical expertise to work remotely with equipment manufacturer’s technicians to diagnose and resolve equipment issues in a timely manner.
This is a 10-month fixed-term appointment. Rank will be established at point of hire. Expected start date is August 2020. Position includes North Carolina state employee benefit package.

Minimum qualifications for teaching are B.S. or B.A. with documented national or international professional experience in video production or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (or a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline). A PhD or MFA in the teaching discipline is preferred.
