Assistant Professor Tenure Track Position in Mass Communication

The University of Montevallo College of Fine Arts invites nominations and applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Mass Communication to teach undergraduate courses in multimedia journalism including newswriting for print, broadcast, and online; reporting via traditional, computer-assisted, and social media platforms; editing; layout/design; and public relations beginning August 2020.

Ph.D. or M.F.A. in journalism with professional media experience required. Clear evidence of effective teaching and commitment to undergraduate education; scholarly/creative productivity; participation in advising, recruitment, service, and committee work also required. Ability to shoot/edit video and experience in public relations writing preferred.

Mass Communication and Communication Studies are in the Department of Communication, which is housed in Strong Hall, a new, state-of-the-art facility with industry-standard equipment. A full-time faculty of nine (five MC) serves approximately 178 undergraduate majors (114 MC) in B.A. and B.S. degree programs. With an enrollment of approximately 3,000, UM is Alabama’s designated public liberal arts university, offering baccalaureate, master’s, and education specialist degree programs with an emphasis on high quality, innovative teaching.
