Position Summary
The Department of Cinema and Media Arts at Biola University is searching for a qualified interactive media, game design, visual effects or virtual reality artist to join the department as faculty.

Education and Experience Required
Candidates may come from the academy or the creative technology industry. Applicants with university-level teaching experience are preferred. Creative technology professionals should have experience (five years or more) in one or more of the following areas; game design, interactive media, visual effects, digital animation, digital arts, computer science, virtual or augmented reality, motion capture, app design, etc.

Candidates are expected to have a broad understanding of creative technologies to participate in the game design, interactive media and visual effects curriculum preparing students for digital image storytelling careers. Of additional interest is experience in gameplay/interactive theory, game development including the current state and trends of the gaming industry, user interface design, 2D and 3D image creation, prototyping, game development engines, coding, motion capture, visual effects or digital animation. The candidate should also have entrepreneurial skills to lead students into emerging markets, new entertainment experiences and models of financing.

The final candidate will teach from established courses on the undergraduate level and is encouraged to propose new courses in creative technology. The typical undergraduate teaching load is 12 units per semester.

As a member of the faculty of the University, a successful candidate will be expected to teach, continue creative work/scholarship, and provide service to the University.

The position is a full-time assistant or associate level tenure-track faculty role with competitive salary and benefits. The anticipated start is the Fall 2018 semester. Master’s degree, MFA, or PhD in media arts, digital arts, gaming, computer science, artificial intelligence or a related field by the time of appointment is preferred.

The Department of Cinema and Media Arts will become Biola’s ninth school on July 1, 2018. The university is currently conducting a search for a founding dean for the new school. Cinema and Media Arts is anticipating substantial growth in the next few years. Biola serves a student body of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students and recently received the highest accreditation level by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC).
