Job Description: The Department of Telecommunication at the University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position for an assistant professor beginning August 2018. The ideal candidate should be a scholar with a record using analytics or computational methods to analyze audience data, has experience studying and applying major digital/web and social media analytics to understand/engage audiences, and is familiar with the systemic process of moving from data to knowledge. The candidate should have a robust knowledge of audience analytics tools and research methodologies. Professional experience is desired but not required.

The Department: The Department of Telecommunication is one of the premiere programs in electronic mass media. Our admission standards are high and the academic standards of our courses are rigorous. The department has 741 majors, 15 faculty and 17 adjunct faculty. The department offers specialized study in Management and Strategy, News, Production and Media and Society. We are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. Affiliated with the College and located in the same building are the Division of Multimedia Properties and our 14,000 sq. ft. “Innovation News Center.” The properties include four commercial stations: WRUF-AM, ESPN 95.3/850; WRUF-FM, Country 103.7, the Gator; WRUF-TV; and three non-commercial stations, WUFT-FM , WJUF-FM, and WUFT-TV.

The Candidate: The ideal candidate will provide evidence of an active research agenda that can lead to significant publications and external grants. He/she will have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in audience analysis, consumer and audience analytics, data analytics, network analysis, and data visualization. The candidate should have experience or willingness to develop and teach online courses.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in a field related to Communication, Telecommunication, Mass Communication, or the social sciences with a media and communication focus, and a strong commitment and ability to work with a diverse student population of undergraduate and graduate students.
