The Department of Communication Arts in the College of the Arts seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Mass Media.  This is an academic, tenure earning faculty position beginning August 1, 2018. All Valdosta State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching courses at multiple levels as needed in their respective disciplines. To carry out our comprehensive mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to successfully engage students as they launch or continue their intellectual journey.

Required qualifications include a terminal degree in Mass Media or related field; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship; and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.  Preference will be given to those professional and college level teaching experience.

The Mass Media program provides an education which transcends the classroom by incorporating hands-on projects that involve the campus and local community. Students within the program create and deliver content through exposure to a variety of disciplines within the field of mass media including broadcast journalism, digital journalism, video, audio, and documentary production. VSU graduates enter into successful careers in areas such as in news, radio, television, sports broadcasting, social media, and corporate production.

The Mass Media’s program outreach includes the South Georgia Film Festival and producing content for local distribution. Faculty members are continually engaged in the writing and production of award-winning creative work.  The program recently benefited from a significant investment in studio facilities and technology.   More information on the program is available at
