Lecturer to Teach Television and Web Producing

The Department of Journalism and Media Management in the School of Communication at the University of Miami is seeking a colleague to join our broadcast journalism faculty at the rank of Lecturer.  This non-tenure track position will begin in January 2018 and requires a Master’s degree and a minimum of five years of relevant professional media experience.  Lecturers teach the equivalent of four courses per semester. The person who assumes this position will teach students to produce news and public affairs content for television and online audiences. The candidate should demonstrate familiarity, comfort, and engagement with social and mobile media platforms, online distribution, and live and recorded television production. Courses may include television producing, television reporting, fundamentals of newsgathering, web producing, mobile newsgathering, writing for the mass media, broadcasting journalism, and social media.
This person may also be required to assume advising duties with UMTV, our student-run cable television channel, and its affiliated website and mobile app. This faculty member will work with counterparts in our Interactive Media program to identify and capitalize on opportunities for collaboration, and work closely with the advisors to the Miami Hurricane newspaper, WVUM-FM radio station, and Distraction magazine to promote and support student media initiatives. The ability to write and report news for television, radio, online, and print media is essential.  In addition, this position requires knowledge of digital technologies such as television studio and field equipment (cameras, recording, lighting, graphics, etc.), newsroom scripting and content management software (the School uses the Associated Press’ ENPS system), non-linear editing, smartphones and tablets.
Experience with creating and managing social and mobile media strategies and workflows is preferred.  Previous experience with Spanish-language media and fluency in Spanish as well as English is desirable, though not required.
