The position requires a Ph.D. or M.F.A. in a field of Radio, Television, Film or Theatre, with sufficient publications or creative productions to warrant tenure and Associate or Full professor. Administrative experience is required, including managing staff and budgets.

Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity
in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

– development of numerous department programs
– close collaboration with Dean and other College chairs
–  supervising department staff
– managing department budget, GE and program assessment, etc.
– teaching courses in area of expertise
– guiding film and theatre productions toward interdisciplinary cooperation
–  supervising an associate chair

SJSU’s Film and Theatre department offers B.A. degrees in two majors: Theatre Arts and Radio-Television-Film (RTVF) and runs multiple theatre stages and spaces (with accompanying scene and costume shops) as well as an FM radio station and a film production company (Spartan Films). The College of Humanities and the Arts, which houses the Film and Theatre department, also runs the state-of-the-art Hammer Theatre, a City of San José/San José State University partnership that allows opportunities for co-productions as well as signature department-produced theater, and RTVF events.
