Peer Review of Creative Scholarship

Regardless of their form, entries selected for exhibition at the BEA Festival of Media Arts are expected to adhere to the highest standards of the academy and the profession. Each exhibited work should meet the extent and depth of expectations of recognized professionals, and broadcast and media educators.

In an effort to mirror the acceptance rates of BEA peer-reviewed journals, the Festival of Media Arts targets a competitive acceptance rate of 20% within each of the full-time faculty competitions. Every reasonable effort is made to ensure an effective blind-review of each faculty submission.

For Deans, Department Chairs, and other Administrators

Faculty competitions are intended to serve as a peer-reviewed outlet for professional creative activities and as a top-tier venue for exhibition with a proven reputation among media educators, academic administrators, and professionals in the field. The quality of accepted works must rise to the highest professional standards and entrants must provide evidence of original authorship, copyrights, releases, etc.

The Festival of Media Arts Annual Report will provide you with a detailed summary of 2009 festival competition with particular emphasis on the peer-review process and faculty acceptance rates. I hope that you will find this report useful as you consider the significance and value of your faculty's creative scholarship in promotion and tenure decisions.
