Research Boot Camps Overview of Quantitative Research Methods Overview: The purpose of this one-day seminar is to provide rudimentary training in research methodology for BEA members who are expected do research in order to earn tenure and promotion, but may not have had formal training in research methods. The Boot Camp is targeted at BEA members who have strong professional backgrounds and want to apply that experience to the research and publication process. Goals: This Boot Camp uses a combination of seminars and laboratory exercises to explore research methods and the publication process. Using the literature review that we’ve worked on together this week, we will specify a research question, then apply the methods we are discussing to answer that question. Each step in the research process will be covered, first from a general perspective and then in relation to our group project. This process will allow the group to collect and analyze data for a rudimentary study, with results available by the end of the day. Schedule: The preliminary schedule is:
Faculty and Facility: The session will be conducted at the Greenspun School of Journalism at UNLV by members of the BEA Research Division including Tim Brown (Univ. of Central Florida), Augie Grant (Univ. of South Carolina), Jeff Wilkinson (United International College) and Dan Stout (Univ. of Nevada Las Vegas). Tuition: The fee for the one-day session is $125, which includes all session materials, lunch, and snacks during the day.
